National 'Medicare For All' Town Hall With Digital Outlets-Jan 23rd 7PM

"The United States is the only major country on earth not to guarantee healthcare to all people, but amazingly there has not been one network town hall to discuss why our system lags so far behind every other industrialized country." U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders

U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders: For the first time in American history we will be holding a nationally televised town meeting on Medicare for all.  The United States is the only major country on Earth not to guarantee health care to all people, but amazingly there has not been one network town hall to discuss why our system lags so far behind every other industrialized country.  We are going outside the traditional media to change that, to talk about the real issues affecting the American people.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

TriTown Democrats to Host Jeff McLynch from the New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute on July 9, 2015.

Farmington, New Hampshire  - June 22, 2015 - The TriTown Democrats, representing the Democratic Committees of Farmington, Milton, and New Durham, is proud to host Jeff McLynch, the executive director from the NH Fiscal Policy Institute, to give a talk on the NH State Budget process.  The event will take place at 7:00 PM on July 9 at the Emma Ramsey Center, 424 White Mountain Highway, Milton.

The New Hampshire Fiscal Policy Institute (NHFPI) is an independent nonprofit organization dedicated to exploring, developing, and promoting public policies that foster economic opportunity and prosperity for all New Hampshire residents.  Their emphasis is on low- and moderate-income families and individuals. The Institute, based in Concord, produces regular reports on the fiscal and economic challenges facing New Hampshire and serves as a resource to anyone interested in meeting those challenges in a fair and sound fashion.  NHFPI aims to illustrate recent budget trends, highlight future challenges, and examine the ways in which the New Hampshire budget is used to educate the state’s children, ensure access to health care, promote public safety, maintain public structures, and achieve other critical public priorities.   In its efforts to promote equitable, responsible, and sustainable fiscal and economic policies, NHFPI collaborates with two national networks of state-level policy research organizations, the State Priorities Partnership (SPP) and the Economic Analysis and Research Network (EARN).

Jeff McLynch. the NHFPI Executive Director, manages the organization’s daily operations and oversees its research, communications, and outreach efforts. He previously served as the State Policy Director at the Institute on Taxation and Economic Policy, where he helped coordinate its efforts to provide policymakers and the public with accurate and timely information on tax systems across the U.S. Jeff also served as the Deputy Director of the Massachusetts Budget and Policy Center and on the professional staff of the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Ways and Means. He holds a Masters of Public Policy from Georgetown University.

The TriTown Democratic Committee advocates for strong local support of our communities, and supports legislation and candidates that are community minded.  Their activities provide political, economic, and social information for the citizens of the three towns, but also encourages progressive movements in these areas at all levels of government.  Through community involvement, political action, and a shared vision, the group seeks to expand equity and opportunity for all residents of the Towns of Farmington, Milton, and New Durham.

Rich Leonard's Op-Ed on Medicaid Expansion

As a Community Pharmacist for over 35 years I have developed relationships with many people earning trust and respect through professionalism and openness.  Attention to facts and accuracy are fundamental cornerstones of my profession along with an ability to listen carefully and teach with patience.

Recently, Republican Senators voted down legislation that would have accepted $2.5 billion of our own federal dollars to pay for Medicaid expansion in New Hampshire. One of those Senators was Sam Cataldo-District Six, (Rochester, Farmington, New Durham, Alton, Gilmanton and Barnstead). Senator Cataldo supported establishing a bipartisan commission to examine how NH could be affected. After six weeks and hearing public and expert testimony, the commission voted to recommend NH participate in Medicaid Expansion. I repeat…voted to accept and participate.

Being involved in the healthcare field I followed the proceedings with interest, attended a public hearing, and kept an open mind. Honestly, I was listening carefully for any valid argument that would make sense of the Republican Senate caucus’s stand against providing medical care to those living in poverty and not Medicaid eligible. Sam Cataldo voted against the Bill despite his own Special Commissions recommendation. In Sam’s backyard, his home town of Farmington has one of the highest rates of poverty in the area at 14.8%. Senator Cataldo's vote against the interest of his own neighbors will have a real impact. Farmington would have benefited by having a healthier population with regular access to a doctor’s care instead of expensive ER visits. District six could have shared in the health and economic benefits as well, if Sam had voted with common sense and accepted the facts.

The fact is, most of our low-income adults in New Hampshire are not Medicaid eligible. Many of us mistakenly assumed that the poorest of our people already were covered by insurance.  Not so. NH Medicaid does not cover people between the ages of 19-64 unless they are very poor AND ALSO either pregnant, blind, disabled, medically needy, or caring for a child or a disabled person. Eligibility for some in this group only goes up to 49% of the poverty guidelines, not 100%.  We have thousands of uninsured in District Six that live at or below 100% poverty level and they will remain uninsured.  You can thank Senator Sam Cataldo for that.

Know who you are voting for next November, and why. Your choice will be critical to the future of our health, education and economic vitality.
